Its literary proliferation left its mark on several generations and taken up by other national and international artists. His gaucho poetry was the most notorious mark he left on his literary heritage. Reflecting in his verses the nostalgia of what is left, of what is no longer there but remains in the heart. It reflects what the memory remembers from the emotional, "decides to forget and always keeping in mind" the place of origin to be able to bond and establish itself in another land. His life was dedicated to being part of the small society that had welcomed him, but even so, his great love for this land led him to become just another Uruguayan. That love for that land and for its place continues to live despite time, continues to bear fruit from his Talense home. We are all looking for a place to be, where to transcend, where to leave a mark. We all need a place to take root, where our best version can germinate. His legacy continues to beat in these lands, he continues to seek to generate culture and tradition because "...the sky is still blue."
